The role of being a mother and a father are created when you give birth to your first child. When you see your little one opening their eyes for the very first time and looking at you, you realize a lot has changed literally overnight.
An expecting mother prepares herself for life after delivery, but trust me, the preparation is never enough. You can use all the parenting tips for newborns you can get your hands on, but having a child is one of the most special moments which is going to change everything, no matter how well prepared you think you are.
From the time that you wake up, until the time that you go to bed, these are the things you need to be aware of and prepared for. Mother's of course aren't the only ones who's lives change, fathers go through many changes as well. A fathers entire universe starts revolving around his newborn baby. Seeing this beautiful life that you've created, tends to make you more cautious and you start taking life more seriously. Don't be scared though, all of these changes though are good changes.
Thе Constant Company
Prior to having children, we become accustom to being in the company of others and avoiding others when we just want some alone time. Once you have a child, this becomes a dream. You have a little life that depends on you every second of the day. Does this sound intimidating? If it does, don't let it intimidate you —this is something you will love and cherish. It's just a big change in your life that you need to adjust to.
Finding some time to yourself is going to be very important for you as well. When you child is sleeping, you can use this time to either relax and rest yourself, pamper yourself, or get things done around your house.
The moment you hear your little one crying, you'll find that at times, nothing but your presence is going to make them stop crying. It's not like you can ask you newborn, " Oh Johnny, mommy's tired, can you please stop crying?". It doesn't work that way.
Thе Feeling оf Nurturing
Nurturing a child is very important for your child's overall well-being. You have to nurture your child with so many things that at times, it becomes overwhelming. As a parent, you have to teach your child how to eat, how to walk, how to talk and also how to behave. You are slowly shaping this little human being and giving them skills to help them through the rest of their life.
For the first few years of your child's life, your child is going to learn what you teach them. What you consider "good", means "good" to them. What you feel is "bad", is "bad" in their books too. If you teach him to add sugar to his cereal, that is how he's going to eat his cereal. You ask hіm to call you mommy and that's exactly what he is going to call you. It's important to take a step back to look at our bad habits so we can re-evaluate and try to eliminate teaching our children these bad habits.
Seeing Baby Grow
Teaching your baby the essentials is one thing. However, when you actually start seeing your little one learning and understanding, it changes absolutely everything!
The first word your baby speaks is directly the result of what you teach them. If you plant a sapling and watch it grow everyday, you'll be content with your efforts. With your own child, this feeling of satisfaction gives an altogether different meaning to life.
When you child starts reacting to things you say or something you do, you are connecting with your little one. This is the first relationship your child understands, the connection between a mother/father and their child. When you watch your baby grow, you're seeing a part of yourself growing. There's nothing in this world that can compete with this wonderful feeling.
Thе Shift іn Priorities
Having a child changes your routine. Before you become a parent, you have priorities in your life or rather, you prioritize things and certain people in your life according to what you feel is appropriate. Once you become a parent, your first priority is your child and nothing in this world can change that. You can't commit to anything or anyone else before you make sure you have done everything to fulfill the needs of your child.
The day your child comes into this world, your family is complete. In the process of forming and giving direction to another life, your life itself goes through many changes.
There are so many things that change once you have a child, that it's virtually impossible to list every single one of them. However, now that you've read some of the ways that life changes after having a child, you can be a bit more prepared for the experience of parenthood. You are going to see life in a completely new beautiful way. I wish you the best of luck on your journey into parenthood!
