Do your kids love playing Minecraft? If you're unfamiliar with the video/computer game Minecraft—here's a quick run down explaining exactly what it is. Minecraft is a highly popular computer game for kids that's based on community. Kids love being able to have the freedom to design and build anything their hearts desire! It provides children with the benefit of developing coding skills online in a safe and secure community which is moderated by technical counselors. Coding skill knowledge give children a valuable advantage in an ever changing technological advanced world; skills that will be beneficial to them in the future.
So How Does Connected Camps Fit in the Picture?
According to the press release by Makenna Taylor-Gonzalez, Marketing Coordinator for Connected Camps—Connected Camps was created by three geek girls on a mission to make coding and digital arts accessible and fun for all children.
You're probably asking what your child will learn from Connected Camps. Children ages 8-15 are given the wonderful opportunity to build, explore, and interact in a world where they can let their imaginations loose and run wild. Other useful skills they'll learn:
Socializing with other players their age
Digital & Community collaboration
Planning for upcoming challenges
Teamwork-working together to complete challenges
Boosts STEM skills
Online web literacy
Learn great creative skills such as: game design, animation, engineering, coding, and build circuits.
The first step in joining the club is registering here. Once you've registered your child for the camp you'll be sent to emails. You'll receive the first email immediately after registering to confirm your registration. The second email is sent one to two days after registration and includes a club guidebook and the server address.
Connected Camps is Offering a Free Minecraft Online Server!
The free Minecraft Online server is a moderated Minecraft home base where children can learn new skills and connect with the Connected Camps community. The community shares a passion for Minecraft and is designed to support kids ages 8-15. The free Minecraft Kid Club Events teach coding, architecture, game design engineering, and also help foster creativity, team work and problem solving.
Your child can join the FREE Kid Club Server and you can check out the schedule of events which currently includes minigames, Architecture Club and more, all hosted by Kid Club counselors. Click here to check out the scheduled events.
How Minecraft Camps are Different From Other Camps
Minecraft Camps Our are purely virtual; you child can attend camp from anywhere they choose! They offer:
Dedicated facilitation by staff directors & counselors
Open-ended structure for participants which is different from camps dedicated only to game design or other learning topics.
There are hours set on the server where camp counselors are available to answer any questions your child might have. To check out a list of camp counselors click here.
Here's a few simple ways that your child can reach a counselor.

Connected Camps will never ask for any personal information beyond the information you provide upon signing up for the camp.
Children 13 years-old have to have parent's permission to join the server. In order for Connected Camps to obtain parental consent, you must verify your identity by using a credit card. They will ping your credit card (meaning the amount of $1 is authorized so that your identity can be verified). The $1 charge is just a temporary charge that drops off your credit card within a week.
Please note that a Minecraft account does not come with the with your signup. You will need to purchase your own Minecraft account for a PC/Mac computer. You can purchase an account here.
